Two weeks ago brought the tragic news that a body had been found on Table Mountain although, at the time, the identity of the man was not yet known.

Today the body has been identified as 57-year-old Henry Harris, first reported missing on June 8 after he failed to return to his Camps Bay hotel. News24 reports:

Cape Town central police spokesperson Captain Ezra October said the case was still under investigation.

“According to our information, the deceased was a chef from Vereeniging,” he said.

The man bought a single ticket for a trip up the mountain, October confirmed.

“No note was retrieved and nothing sinister is suspected. There were also no witnesses to the incident.”

A post mortem and blood report will now be conducted, after which the case will be handed over to state prosecutors.

Despite the fact that Harris’ body was found on June 18, having been reported missing on June 8, police believe the body had not been on the mountain for more than a few days. The body, found in the Arrow Final area after an estimated 200 metre fall, had not begun to badly decompose.
