They say bad things happen in threes, so let’s hope this latest accident at Nelson Mandela Square is the last we’ll be seeing for a while. As News 24 reports, two construction workers were injured yesterday evening:
The ceiling of an empty shop on the second level collapsed on them,” said CEO of JHI Properties Nomzamo Radebe.
This photo from the scene apparently looks a lot worse than it actually was, as Radebe went on to say:
They were treated on the scene and no customers were injured.
Whilst we’re relieved it wasn’t more serious, one would hope the mall are seriously looking into their health and safety, particularly as this is the second time in a month that a piece of ceiling collapsed on someone, and only days after that a woman tripped on a piece of carpet, injuring her hip.
We do love a good shopping mall story so thanks for that Jo’burg… now, back to gazing at those mountains….
