Looks like someone has been watching some Zoolander reruns but, rather than an inability to turn left, this model has an inability to write a punchy political statement on a piece of paper.
The Rick Owens show at Paris Fashion Week was disrupted when a model sauntered down the catwalk with a home-made sign that read ‘Please kill Angela Merkel…Not”. Merkel is, of course, the German chancellor and has been since 2005.
Owens is no stranger to controversy himself, his January show featuring male models with their man bits exposed.
This time it was a rogue model, known simply as Jera, who raised the issue of Germany’s involvement in the debt crisis that is crippling Greece. More from the Guardian:
The designer has been quick to distance himself from the stunt, issuing a statement that said: “This was an independent statement and does not reflect the opinion of the house of Rick Owens.” The designer, who has worked with Jera for 12 years, reportedly punched him after the show and had the model escorted from the show premises.
We won’t dwell on the fact that this model looks the face of Mugatu’s Derelicte campaign, nor on how he spunked his big chance at making a real political statement with a Borat-like attempt at making a point.
Models – stick to walking down runways and hoovering up the Colombian marching powder.
