Meeting the Queen is a memorable moment in any little girl’s life but throw in a face shot from a soldier and you’ve got a good day out.

Six-year-old Maisie Gregory, dressed in her finest traditional Welsh costume (no, not the kind that helps them sneak up on sheep), was presenting the Queen with a posy in Cardiff yesterday and seemed to be taking it all in her stride. Then the soldier enters the fray, described here by the Daily Mail:

But the six-year-old’s big moment came to a painful conclusion, after a saluting soldier accidentally smacked her on the head as the monarch turned away.

To add insult to injury, the blow also sent her black bonnet flying – leaving the child to look furiously up at the offending infantryman as the Queen disappeared.

Despite losing her bonnet, the six-year-old daughter of regimental sergeant major Martin Gregory was none the worse for her royal encounter – while the Queen was reportedly left ‘delighted’ by the posy she was given.

And just think one day, when she is old enough and has a job that requires her to pay tax, she can ensure that Charlotte and George are kept ‘delighted’ too.
