I reckon airport security must see a lot of stuff down in the baggage area. I know for sure that they saw my camera at Cape Town International once. And then I never saw it again.
But what do you do when you see this image appearing on your computer screen:
Well, I suppose the first thing is ask whether it’s dead or alive…
Good news! Alive!
Eight-year-old Adou Ouattara from the Ivory Coast was found in a suitcase belonging to a Moroccan woman at the border town of Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in North Africa. Apparently Adou’s father had paid the woman to take his son to Spain.
Adou’s parents both live legally on the Spanish Canary Island of Fuerteventura and were trying to bring two of their children from Ivory Coast to live with them. They successfully got a visa for their one daughter, but due to their finances were not able to get a visa for their son.
Mr Ouattara managed to obtain a visa for his son (it’s not clear how, but let’s assume illegally, hence the suitcase) and the Moroccan woman was to bring him to Spain via car. He says he was not part of any plan to bring his son into the country via a suitcase.
Adou has been reunited with his mother after DNA tests.
This just goes to show the extreme level people will go to to ensure a future for their families. Scary stuff.
