Danny Jordaan has so far been pretty mum in the midst of mounting allegations that he, having headed the 2010 World Cup bid, is well and truly wrapped up in the corruption scandal splashed across papers and websites around the world.
Now a letter Jordaan wrote, dated 10 December 2007 and directed at Jerome Valcke (or ‘dear friend’ as he awkwardly adds), calls out two people by name that he alleges he spoke to before redirecting the $10 million amount that we keep on hearing so much about. The Mail and Guardian reports:
[He] put the request to Fifa secretary general Jérôme Valcke in a December 2007 letter, which names [Nkosazana] Dlamini-Zuma and Jabu Moleketi, respectively foreign affairs minister and deputy finance minister under former president Thabo Mbeki…
This supports the allegation, first contained in the US indictment of football officials internationally and unsealed last week, that the government of South Africa had agreed to a bribe, disguised as a football development contribution, for Caribbean football boss Jack Warner and two others…
Whilst Fikile Mbalula has denied all allegations it seems not everyone shares that opinion, with the article citing a senior government source as revealing that some in Jacob Zuma’s Cabinet are doubtful that all was above board.
The letter is also bad news for Jerome Valcke, who has denied having any involvement in either the arranging or transferring of the ‘donation’ from SAFA and our World Cup committee.
It was just three weeks after this letter that the first of three money transfers (totalling $10 million would you believe it?) occurred from FIFA to accounts controlled by Jack Warner. The FBI indictment alleges that Warner used the money for personal means and passed on around $750 000 to Sepp Blatter.
Keep the information coming guys, this train just keeps on rolling.
