There are a few sure-fire ways to really piss people off in this country, so when you’ve already murdered a few rhinos why not top it all off by killing your investigating officer?
Mthobisi Lennox Ngwenyama, a 33-year-old prat of the highest order, managed to escape custody shortly before appearing in an Mpumalanga court for rhino poaching. Not content with mowing down our endangered animals, he then went after the investigating officer in his case, shooting Constable Joseph Baloyi and killing him whilst the officer drove home yesterday evening.
Ngwenyama is no stranger to breaking the law and a history littered with offences. This from News24:
[He] was also facing charges relating to a hijacking that he allegedly committed last year, and a case of house robbery and two of house breaking from 2012.
“A case of attempted murder was also registered against Ngwenyama on Monday this week after he allegedly shot his friend in the leg following an argument over money.”
Major General Mthandazo Ntlemeza, the acting Hawks head, has vowed not to rest until Ngwenyama is behind bars and says a large-scale manhunt is currently under way.
One feels that if the poacher is nabbed by law enforcement it might be a messy arrest, one of those where he repeatedly falls face first into any and all surrounding hard surfaces. He won’t find much sympathy around these parts.
