Can we just take a moment to think about how much PE has been in the news of late? What with Jayde’s murder, the statues, and this crazy rape story, it’s a wonder the Associated Press doesn’t send a team of journalists to camp somewhere in the city.
To add to all the news, Tuesday morning saw a Port Elizabeth couple facing a troupe of intruders in their Pari Park home. Miraculously, they have video footage of the whole incident. Craven Coetzee, who was staying at his girlfriends house that night, has edited the footage quite nicely, and you can get a glimpse of just how close to serious trouble they were in.
The video initially shows the intruders come into the house and walk around (clearly summing up what to take). It then switches to show Craven in his bed, and later shows how close the intruders were to him as he slept.
His girlfriend clearly hears something and suddenly appears in the view of the camera with a small gun, which she shoots.
Next minute a shot is fired and the brave woman can be seen walking towards the room where the robbers are with her gun aimed at them.
Craven then wakes up from the noise and (this is the best part, after the cats) jumps out of bed, instantly pulling his own gun out from under his pillow.
Unfortunately the men had already escaped and stolen the girlfriends handbag, some cash and credit cards.
Please enjoy this thrilling insight into regular South African life.
