Rape happens so much in South Africa that unless it’s a high profile case, the stories pass us by completely unnoticed. It’s a terrifying notion that a nation can turn a blind eye on a terrible, daily occurrence. As I said though, once in a while, a rape case makes headlines, and this one is really causing a stir. The reason why? Because, it was a woman who raped a man.
A 33-year-old Zimbabwean man has been raped by three women in Port Elizabeth. He explained to The Daily Mail how he was standing on the side of the road when a black BMW pulled up and a lady asked him for directions. Another lady in the car then pointed a gun at him, forcing him into the car. After driving away, they forced him to drink something and then proceeded to each rape him on the side of the road.
They told me that they didn’t want my money or to hurt me, they said “what we want from you is your semen”… Once they had got all the semen they could get from me, which they collected in a bag, they packed it in a cooler box.
He has expressed his “shock, disbelief and pain at the incident” and is reportedly too scared to leave his house. I can’t blame him. Have you seen how some women act these days?
Accoring to the SAPS, there is a possibility the women wanted the sperm for ‘muti’.
Kathleen Dey, the director for Rape Crisis in Cape Town, explains how woman-on-man rape is quite rare in South Africa, with only 10% of rape victims being male and that “very few of those report being raped by women”.
