It isn’t every day we read about two young entrepreneurs from Mohlakeng, a Gauteng township, meeting up with a top executive at a multinational computer company to pimp out his ride. It kind of made us feel lekker inside, so let’s get to business.
David Gumede and Lesego Legoale grew up tinkering with the neighbourhood wheels and eventually founded White Wall Boys, a car-customising company. Whilst they had become renowned in the townships as the go-to guys for ride pimping, they had only dreamt of dealing with the supercar world of the rich and famous. That was, of course, until Omar Patel (not his real name) came calling. This from IOL:
I found these guys through a Saturday Star article from a couple of years ago on the internet. I managed to track down a cellphone number of one of the guys. I looked for them for about two days…
My main concern was taking the risk, but if you believe you have found trustworthy people to do what you want, then you just simply do it.
Patel put his trust in the two lads and let them get to work, although the process wasn’t without the odd speed bump:
When I started chopping the Maserati to prepare for the installation of the hinges, I thought about the R1.5-million price tag,” Gumede said.
“But I knew it was going to come right. I resisted listening to the back of my mind. The experience I have had on many cars suggests this one was a bit of a walk in the park…
The Maserati was duly kitted out and Patel drove off a satisfied customer. Here’s hoping the township duo have the chance to get stuck into a few more supercars and show off their skills, it looks like they nailed this one without too much fuss.
