I was a great fan of rolling my car back when I was on a steep incline and was supposed to be stationery. Then, thankfully, I changed to automatic, because that traffic light at Buitensingel and Buitengracht is actually too much to handle on a daily basis. So it goes without saying that I’m pretty freaking happy we don’t have this bridge within my driving radius:
I know. That’s the Eshima Ohashi Bridge in Japan. It connects the two cities of Matsue and Sakaiminato. Because it crosses over a river, it needs height for fishing boats to move freely under it. Many have described it as a roller-coaster for cars.
The bridge has a gradient of 6.1 percent on one side and 5.1 percent on the other [side].
Of course, pictures taken from a side angle make the bridge look less daunting.
Either way, I would prefer not to have to engage clutch control during a slow-moving traffic jam.
