Well it looks like we have this week’s most OG live interview nailed down then, the rest of you can throw in the towel.
André du Plessis, head of the Cannabis Working Group, has sparked controversy following his interview on SABC’s The Newsroom. The activist appeared to light up a joint on the live broadcast, with the SABC getting their knickers in a twist. Here’s IOL:
SABC spokesman Kaiser Kganyago said they were not able to confirm whether what Du Plessis was smoking was marijuana, but said they condemn his actions.
“He took advantage of a live show and we do not condone any kind of smoking. Smoking of any kind is not shown on any of our platforms and is not even allowed to be advertised.”
The interview focused on the legalisation of of marijuana in South Africa, pitting du Plessis against the Central Drug Authority’s deputy chairman David Nayever. As you can see Du Plessis didn’t take too kindly to Nayever claiming that the recent wave of xenophobia had delayed the possibility of legalising the ‘erb.
He did later confirm that he was in fact smoking marijuana. Well played André, stick it to the man.
