There’s nothing better than a pregnant celeb showing her support for PETA and animals. This time around it is 36-year-old model and mother Marisa Miller.
Miller is pregnant with her second child, and, after watching the film Blackfish, was inspired to stand up for the rights of Orca whales in captivity. And so she lay nude in a bathtub.
Being a mother, the model understood “that mother orcas cry out in sadness when their children are taken from them” and was “heartbroken”.
… Orcas at SeaWorld spend their lives in tiny concrete tanks that, to them, are the size of a bathtub,” Miller detailed, referencing her ad campaign. “Because of their confinement, they can only float listlessly, swim in circles and attack one another until they die — usually far short of their natural life expectancy — from injuries, pneumonia or other captivity-related causes. At least 36 orcas have died at SeaWorld — and not one of them from old age.
SeaWorld has taken on large scale scrutiny since PETA took notice, with huge sponsors like Mattel pulling out.
Miller’s tagline for her campaign is “SeaWorld: Separating Babies and Mothers Since 1970”, and fair enough. I’m all in support of what she is doing.
