Hey, did you know that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are going to make a few bob each this weekend?
Of course you did because you read this site and you don’t live under a rock. Mayweather’s latest figures though, straight from the prize fighter’s mouth, are a little higher than those that have been bandied about elsewhere. Here’s the Telegraph:
[He] has revealed that he will earn $200 million [R2,4 billion] from…Saturday night here at the MGM Grand – and that $50 million will go to each of his four children. It is the legacy of his children’s children that matters to him now, not his own legacy in boxing.
Floyd added that he had been bothered that he hadn’t seen too much of three of his kids whilst training for the fight. The LA Times here:
It’s been bothering me a lot that, three of them, I haven’t been able to see. You know how women are sometimes,
He forgot to add that was because he was convicted of domestic violence against their mother, Josie Harris, with custody being granted to her in the wake of Mayweather’s three-month imprisonment in 2012.
Should Mayweather win his remaining two contractually obligated fights (this weekend’s and one more in September) he will equal Rocky Marciano’s famed 49-0 undefeated record. He insists he will not attempt to break the record, though:
Asked if he treasured the 0 on his 47-0 record, Mayweather conceded that “the money is more important than the undefeated record”…
“At the end of the day, my daughter can’t eat no zero — she can’t spend a boxing record”.
Pacquiao steered clear of talking finance, but with his take being rumoured at 40% of all profits generated by the fight he stands to make around the $100 – $120 million (R1,3 billion) mark.
