When you’re the person responsible for the Boston Marathon bombings of 2013, an attack that left three dead and an estimated 264 people injured, sympathy is going to be hard to come by.
You might be advised then to avoid pulling the zap sign at security cameras in the police cell where you are being kept ahead of an arraignment. The then 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev can clearly be seen taking his middle finger for a spin, although lawyers from both sides are viewing the incident in a very different light (shocker right?). This from Huffington Post:
…federal prosecutors argued it was a symbol of the accused terrorist and fanatic’s attitude toward the country that gave him asylum and then citizenship.
“This is Dzhokhar Tsarnaev — unconcerned, unrepentant and unchanged,” federal prosecutor Nadine Pellegrini said Tuesday…
The defence then showed the full video (which can be seen up top), where it can be seen that the obscene gesture was just a brief fraction of the time Tsarnaev spent in front of the camera.
Tsarnaev has already been found guilty of 30 separate charges and will either face life inprisonment without parole or death by lethal injection.
