Every time Facebook tinkers with its News Feed people get all kinds of crazy. Angry tweets, keyboard warriors raging in comments sections, we’ve seen it all before.
Facebook announced yesterday it is set to reconfigure their current formula, with the changes aimed at giving you more posts from the people you actually care about. Hey, if it gets rid of those baby pics that keep flooding mine I’m all for it. Here’s IOL:
“The goal of News Feed is to show you the content that matters to you,” said a blog post by Facebook’s Max Eulenstein and Lauren Scissors.
One of the key changes aims “to ensure that content posted directly by the friends you care about, such as photos, videos, status updates or links, will be higher up in News Feed so you are less likely to miss it”, the blog said.
To make room, Facebook will push down items such as commentary on a news story or another person’s post.
In addition you will now be more likely to see multiple posts from your favourite Facebook peeps, which is a tweak on the old system which aimed to prevent this from happening:
Previously, we had rules in place to prevent you from seeing multiple posts from the same source in a row. With this update, we are relaxing this rule. Now if you run out of content, but want to spend more time in News Feed, you’ll see more.
Happy days for all those of you who spend your days hitting refresh, waiting with baited breath to see what happens next . Bad news, I assume, for businesses wanting their employees to stop mucking about and actually get some work done.
