It can’t be easy being one of the public faces of Scientology right now, what with the religion being torn apart in a new documentary and their leader coming under fire.
So what does John Travolta do then, does he hide away from the increased media scrutiny or does he come out firing? It’s the latter, and here’s the Guardian quoting him:
People really need to take time and read a book. You know, that’s my advice. You could read A New Slant on Life, you could read Dianetics. And I think if you really read it, you’ll understand it, but unless you do, you’ll speculate. And I think that’s a mistake to do that…
[The religion is] something that really works well. Forty years for me, I’ve been a part, and I’ve loved every minute of it,” he said. “My family has done so well with it. It’s been a beautiful thing for me. I’ve saved lives with it and saved my own life several times. Through my loss of my son, it helped me every step of the way for two years solid, and here I am.
Well that seems fair enough one has to say, but then there are the allegations that the church has so much dirt on Travolta he is unable to leave. This from a Huffington Post article a few weeks back:
…when there were rumors of Travolta wanting to leave Scientology, the Church created a “black PR package” that has “all the damaging material” from his private auditing sessions. Travolta also reportedly refused to have his sessions video taped, but secret cameras were hidden anyway.
I suppose we are destined never to know the truth. Then again, when it comes to a religion that was created by a renowned science-fiction writer those lines may have become blurred quite some time ago.
