The guidelines as to what you can and cannot post image wise on Instagram are supposed to be quite rigid. On posting a photo of her toddler last year, a mother’s account was shut down. Actress Alyssa Milano last year posted a photo of herself breastfeeding her baby. She received an incredulous amount of backlash for something hardly inappropriate.
Thankfully, Instagram has updated its guidelines and it is definitely now alright to post pictures of you breastfeeding. I would certainly suggest asking for friend’s permission if it’s a picture of them though.
Instagram has clarified that photos of “women actively breastfeeding” are 100% permitted. Photos of post-mastectomy scars are fair game, too.
Of course, the usual images of “sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully nude buttocks” are still banned, but are they really? I used #love to search for something the other day and I was not met with pictures of normality at all. There are plenty of images that show sexual intercourse, genitals, and close-ups of fully nude buttocks. Should they not be the ones causing a stir, rather than innocent breastfeeding posts?
Whilst I’m not sure if I would post the same photo of me one day, these images of Pink, Gisele and Natalie are hardly anything outrageous.
Thankfully the new guidelines “remind users not to share messages that support or praise terrorism, organized crime, or hate groups or that offer illegal services”.
Phew, I had almost forgotten that.
