This has actually been done at a good time, because who really knows how to style an Apple Watch into ones outfit without feeling like a robot of sorts? I know when to wear my square-faced gold link DKNY watch – in the evenings with a LBD – and in the daytime I wear a classic leather strapped, white faced, rose gold rimmed number from Nixon. One of my favourite things to do is wear a pretty summer dress and then add my dad’s old sailing watch – it’s huge and chunky and completely opposite to the dress.
Which is why it’s most important to know how to wear the Apple Watch. ELLE Australia has taken it upon themselves, and fashion ed Sara Smith took the reigns:
The ELLE look: Team the Apple Watch with chic tailored separates and martial arts- inspired pieces. That’s how I styled it for ELLE this month – everything is belted to give it a karate-inspired edge. Add a pair of sports shoes, no need for jewellery or accessories because the watch is the hero.
On the weekend: Wear it with trackies, your boyfriend’s shirt (worn cuffed and loose) and a chic cashmere overcoat – Acne has a great option in store at the moment. Keep it loose and low-key with sneakers or sandals (worn with socks if you dare). Mix the watch with fine gold and silver jewellery from Petite Grand and Pink LouLou.
For a cocktail party: Wear with a tuxedo suit and sexy heels (think Le Smoking Saint Laurent style with Alexander Wang black heels), or if you have the legs for it, a killer cocktail dress. Mix statement jewels with your watch. Try a fabulous cocktail ring and Cartier’s Love Bracelet would look great sitting side by side with your Apple Watch. It will be the perfect conversation starter at a party.
How to wear it to work: Wear a sexy silk Equipment shirt, buttoned down low with a black silk camisole underneath, and add a sharp tailored blazer and man-style pants. Mean business with a power bag from Saint Laurent and sharp flats from French legend Céline. For added glam, a subtle pair of Tiffany & Co. silver earrings and a fine diamond tennis bracelet will complete the boardroom look and have all the execs talking.
The only problem with styling the Apple Watch is that you’re going to have to have it in all the colours. And they don’t come cheap.
