It’s all been pretty quiet on the Stellenbosch axe murder front of late, although some new information has come to light that spices things up just a tad. Well, if you consider an inheritance of R200 million just a tad…
It has come to light that Marli and Henri van Breda, the only surviving members of the brutal attack that claimed the lives of their parents and brother, are going to benefit from an estate valued at around R200 million. Martin van Breda, their murdered father, was a successful businessman both here and abroad and amassed quite a fortune before the attacks on January 27.
Meanwhile Marli has recovered sufficiently to leave hospital and is undergoing rehabilitation at an undisclosed location. Many are saying she holds the key to unlocking the mystery, although I think most of us who have paid any attention to the attack are reasonably certain as to who is responsible. This from News24:
She suffered a deep gash to her head and her jugular was severed.
According to [her advocate] Coetzee, Marli’s health has improved considerably. She can talk, but not for long, and is not yet able to make a complete police statement.
It is also reported that the case has been handed over to the National Prosecuting Authority by the police. Henri, meanwhile, remains in the custody of his uncle.
