Ha. This is why you should always listen to your parents, because they truly can have the last laugh.
Whilst still alive, Dawid van Vuuren repeatedly asked one of his two sons, Daniel, to stop smoking, saying also that he would take him out of his will if he didn’t. The two boys obviously thought these threats were not to be taken seriously.
That is until their father passed away and left everything in his will to his two daughters, with not a dime for the two boys.
Daniel has accepted the fate, but Marius (the other son) has contested it, hoping for a ruling of intestate, claiming that he thought the will, written by hand on a piece of paper, was simply a threat and “regarded this as a joke and never thought it would happen”. And, why should Marius, a non-smoker, also be left out of the will?
To backtrack a bit, the two sisters took the handwritten will to court where it was declined as an official document by the Master of the High Court, which Marius was delighted about. Marius claimed that his father told “their aunt on his deathbed that he had a will and all his four children were beneficiaries”. So, why now are only the two daughters in the will?
Did the sisters write the will?
Seems not.
The girls took the will to court again to prove that it is official, and the judge ruled in their favour.
What a dick move, dad. It’s not like no one smokes.
