I’m sure there are pictures of Julius Malema and Floyd Shivambu stuck on many a dartboard and shooting range across the country…Orania anyone? When this becomes hugely problematic is when the security personnel tasked with maintaining order in the National Assembly during SONA are using pictures of the afore-mentioned EFF members, and MP Reneilwe Mashabela, for target practice.
The white-shirted security force called on to eject Juju and the EFF after some classic #paybackthemoney verbal jousting were trained in Pretoria and the Cape Flats using the pics in an effort to help them identify their primary targets. This from City Press:
Mashabela made headlines last year when she was forcibly removed from the House by police officers for calling President Zuma a thief. The EFF said Mashabela had been badly assaulted and was taken to hospital on Thursday, as her jaw was injured during the scuffle.
“It is clear they were targeted,” said a parliamentary insider.
It is also reported that after SONA was adjourned security chief Zelda Holtzman congratulated security on a job well done. Opposition party members claimed the security personnel had been given a clear mandate to attack certain members of their parties. City Press once more:
DA chief whip John Steenhuisen claimed the police officers had been flown in from across the country and had performed drills at 9pm in the days leading up to Sona.
“The cross benches were laid out and they were doing drills with about 400 people there. It was obviously done under the cover of darkness, so that they were not exposed,” he said.
“The fact that they were dressed in civilian clothing showed there was a need to conceal what they were doing. If they were in uniform it would have been noticeable how militarised Parliament was.”
At what point do we stop being surprised by it all? People calling other people cockroaches (HERE), Zuma lagging his p**s off about the EFF being physically assaulted (HERE), it would all be so much more amusing if these weren’t the people running our country and making decisions that affect all of our futures.
