A little bit of background here before we get started. The Sun, a UK-based ‘newspaper’, is to news what eTV is to movies released in the past five years. That is to say, they don’t go hand in hand.
One thing the Sun is famous for, and one of its staples over the years, has been the bare-breasted beauties on page 3. This has become regular reading for our British buddies, causing no end of awkward leg crosses and shifty glances on public transport countrywide.
However, in the wake of almost a week without the topless teasers, news outlets nationwide reported that the Sun had cancelled its Page 3 feature. This was hailed as a win for those 200 000 plus folks who petitioned to have it removed as a part of the ‘No More Page 3’ campaign.
Then, this from today’s Sun, with some NSFW pictures to boot:
Further to recent reports in all other media outlets, we would like to clarify that on Page 3 of today’s Sun is a picture of Nicole, 22, from Bournemouth.
We would like to apologise on behalf of the print and broadcast journalists who have spent the last two days talking and writing about us.
They also ran a headline on the front page reading “We’ve had a mammary lapse – see Page 3.”
The ‘No to Page 3’ campaign has vowed to keep fighting, thanking the Sun for all the publicity they had received in the past week.
We’ll leave the last word to fiery Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle, who just about sums it all up.
