Straight outta Benoni and straight inta jail…
This dude has probably made a few terrible decisions in his time but this, this is by far the worst.
Scott Parker, a pet relocation consultant decided to try import of 15 kg of heroin in containers used to transport three cats. He was immediately arrested at London Heathrow on 21 November.
He has since been denied bail and has been in custody ever since.
Scott Parker, a 43-year-old Springs Boys’ High School alumni, was arrested at London Heathrow on the morning of 21 November. Parker, who has worked as a pet relocation consultant since 2008, was transporting three cats for clients of the company he works for — Noelmed Agencies CC, trading as “Animal Travel Agency” or “Ezee Animal Transport” based in Johannesburg.
After unloading the cats, Heathrow Animal Reception Centre staff noticed that the empty cages felt unusually heavy. Upon closer inspection, the cages were found to have a false bottoms, and a combined weight of 15 kg of heroin was discovered, which is said to have a street value of £750 000 (R13 million).
The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed the Parker had been charged under the Customs and Excise Act, but the exact charge was unclear. It is assumed it is a class B charge of “Fraudulent evasion of controls of Class A and B drugs”, given the Crown Prosecution Service barrister confirmed the word fraud while attempting to recall the exact charge, despite being unable to confirm it. If this assumption is correct, the matter falls under both the Customs and Excise Management Act of 1979 (section 170(2)) and the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (section 3).
This carries a possible sentence of maximum sentence of 14 years custody and/or unlimited fine with the offence range being between 12 weeks and 10 years custody.
