What should have been a day of fun and horse racing left Australia mourning after two horses at the Melbourne cup died.
Admire Rakti ran the 3,200-metre race at Flemington Racecource and then died of a heart attack in his stall moments after the race. A competitor of his, Araldo, shattered his leg during the race and later had to be euthanised.
Many people have taken to Twitter to speak of their sadness.
The horse race tends to stop the nation; this time, it broke the nation’s heart.
Whilst watching the races is always a fun day, there is always the huge risk of the majestic animals getting hurt. Is it all worth it?
I’m also going to take this moment to show you the utter mess that was left behind at the venue…
Whatever happened to a day at the races with suits, dresses and pretty hats? When did it become this debaucherous mess?
Aussie’s can have a day of double mourning – for the horses and for the disgraceful mess.
As proud Capetonians, please can we never leave the J&B Met or the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate in this state.
