The Italian Football side did it for D&G. Helen Mirren et al did it for a local hospital in the movie Calendar Girls. Now, UCT’s MC Marais XV have stripped off for charity and an annual tour. Ladies and Gentlemen (although this one is definitely more for the laydeez), I present the 2011 MC Marais Naked Calendar:
This joins William Webb-Ellis picking up a soccer ball instead of kicking it, and Francois Pienaar raising the Webb-Ellis trophy in 1995 as one of the great rugby related moments of all time. The calendars are selling for R100 each with at least the first R5000 raised going towards the Acorn Initiative, a mentorship program for underprivileged children, and any surplus going towards the team’s annual tour fund. The Acorn Initiative offers guidance to children who don’t have access to great role models or a safe space to develop their own opinions and practice expressing themselves. The initiative takes them on outings, pays for outdoor activities and really just gives them a chance to be kids, allowing them to develop interests that might help them aspire to more than what they believe they deserve right now.
The line-up includes a Men’s Health cover model and a well-known former Caprice barman. The calendar is not explicit and all naughty bits are covered by props. Excuse the pun. Please support the team and their cause by ordering a calendar whether for your desk at work, as a light hearted Christmas stocking filler or just in support of the good nature of the endeavour. Contact doclouw@gmail.com for any orders or queries.
