South African Masterchef is well into its third season on MNet, and is already causing a stir amongst viewers. Not only does the food make you continuously hungry, it also reminds you that your Sunday night spag-bol is not going to win you a Michelin star…
One of this season’s favourites is domestic worker turned domestic goddess Siphokazi Mdlankomo. Hailing from Cape Town, she previously worked for a family in Newlands, where she cooked amazing meals.
She is using her newfound voice to “advocate on behalf of domestic workers around the world.”
“People, not only in South Africa, but all over the world should start taking domestic workers much more seriously. People need to start thinking of domestic work as any other profession.”
In South Africa, many domestic workers become a part of the family, walking the pets and spending a lot of time with children whilst parents are at work.
Wishing her the best of luck!
