Following Downton Abbey’s blunder of forgetting to remove a plastic water bottle from the set of the series’ new promotional poster, the cast has responded with in a tongue-in-cheek fashion – good on them.
A new poster, to plug Season 5 of the long-running show, included an awkwardly placed bottle on the mantle-piece, which definitely broke the facade of the 20th-century period drama.
To respond to the internet backlash, the entire cast of the show decided to post a picture of themselves, all holding a plastic bottle of water, and angled the picture to raise awareness and funds for the WaterAid UK charity.
“After seeing the reaction the picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention towards an issue around water that really matters,” a statement on WaterAid’s website reads.
“While the water bottle is in the uncropped version of a publicity photograph, we can assure you that it will not be making an appearance on screen,” added an ITV spokesperson.
