You are probably thinking this sounds impossible, but it is happening! Luxury could now be yours… provided you are willing to submit to their terms and conditions.
These flights are made possible by the empty leg of a journey either to pick up clients who have chartered the private jet (or own it) or on the way back from dropping them off. Because the pilots would otherwise be flying an empty plane, operators or owners are often willing to let this trip go for an absolute steal! The Daily Mail reported yesterday:
With flexibility around what date you travel, and with a group large enough to offset the one-off chartering fee, everyday Britons are travelling at rates which can rival or better those of the budget airlines.
A brief search today on private jet price comparison website Victor revealed you and six friends could travel from London to Corsica on Thursday – on board a Hawker 400XP – for just £1,650.
That equates to just £235 per person.
Ok, so that is still roughly a bajillion rands at the current exchange rate, but still way less than a commercial flight in some cases and for luxury you could only dream of while cramped up with your knees around your ears in economy class.
The only down side is that the flight could be cancelled at the last minute and there is no recourse as it is not a regulated agreement.
That said, if you are a pretty flexible traveller and you have a group of friends who you want to travel with, this could be a once in a lifetime experience of what it is like to be a rock-star.
