If the five million diets out there already aren’t doing it for you, there’s a new one on the fat-cutting block, and it’s gaining some serious exposure.
Top cardiologist Dr William Davis has started a war against wheat, which he says cutting out of your diet can help tighten your tummy and give your skin a younger, more vibrant look. Never heard that one before.
In his new book, Wheat Belly, Dr Davis explains how wheat — the cornerstone of official heart-healthy diets for decades — has been transformed by aggressive modern farming techniques into a ‘super-carbohydrate’ that is turned into blood sugar by your body faster than almost any other food. This in turn triggers huge spikes in insulin. It is this hormone that converts excess blood sugar into fat that is stored primarily around your stomach.
The book does provide some ways to change your diet in order to help your body, such as eating as much of the following: vegetables, eggs, healthy oils, meats and cheese, while curbing your intake of fruits, dairy, fruit juices and soya products.
