To those of you out there who live normal, well-adjusted lives and don’t care about petroleum-based geekery, you might think Koenigsegg is a bar you don’t remember from your varsity pub crawl in Salzburg or a ski resort your friend and this amazing guy she met at a gallery mentioned they visited just before you stopped listening. But it is in fact, a Swedish supercar –oh hang on, super and now mega-car manufacturer- with a rather Germanic name and a penchant for madness.
This is the latest piece of meat they’ve tossed into the fondue of super/mega/hyper car rivalry, and it looks as if Salvador Dali designed a tarantula’s nightmare before handing it over to Grumman-Northrop’s secret division for some aerodynamics.
These are not my favourite type of cars, I find them far too incredulous and fanbro high-fivey for my (in my mind) more austere tastes. Make no mistake, this looks incredible and will be aneurism-inducing (in a good way) to drive. That’s because that One:1 does not mean that the word one is the same as the number 1 because even the Swedes aren’t that sarcastic.
It means this car has a power to weight ratio of 1 to 1! That means that it has the same number of brake horsepower as it does kilograms, which is not only a good thing, but an extraordinary thing.
It means you can pull 2gs in a corner. Yes. You will feel like you weigh twice as much as you do in a corner because of gravity, meaning I would probably weigh more than the car under those circumstances. The mind truly boggles.
They reckon it’s going to be the world’s fastest homologated (never mind) production car with a “simulated” top speed of 440km/h. Yeesh.
It debuts at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed on the 26th June 2014.
