WOW! A blue diamond was sold at Christie’s in Geneva on Wednesday. The price? $23.79 MILLION. That’s nearly a quarter billion Rand!
Christies, it seems, has been doing rather well as of late – specifically in the realm of coloured diamonds. That there are people in this world who actually have this kind of money to spend on what is fundamentally just a stone, is actually quite terrifying.
Here’s what else Christie’s cashed in on recently: last November they sold the World’s largest orange diamond for $35.5 MILLION.
For the record, coloured diamonds are a thing now. They are far more rare than the regular translucent types. In fact, they attract far higher prices per carat than even the most flawlessly perfect, clear diamond. Keep that in mind the next time you feel the urge to drop some serious jack.
