Two years after one of the most brutal and well-planned attacks by insurgents on an Airbase which was home to RAF and American fighters images of soldiers flaunting their victory are still slowly leaking out. These are really graphic and slightly horrifying pics which really don’t reflect well on humanity. Then again, war in general doesn’t reflect so well on humanity.
The two RAF officers who were pictured have been hauled over the coals and removed from the front-line but a spokesperson has said in their defence
“It’s hard for us, or anyone in the UK to imagine the heat of a hard-fought firefight against well-armed and well-drilled insurgents trying to kill you. It was the middle of the night, bullets were flying, aircraft were in flames and the adrenalin was flowing. That’s not an excuse, but it must be a consideration.” [The Telegraph]
Whether this testosterone fuelled and frankly terrifying environment justifies such behaviour continues to have a giant question mark over it with increasing numbers of communities speaking out against it as a human rights violation.
Heavy for a Monday morning, we know, but check out the full story here once you’ve had a second cup of coffee/green tea.
