SA consumers are generally more tech savvy than their retail counterparts. A recent report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) indicates SA consumers want retailers to up their game; provide convenient store locations, websites that enable them to easily find and purchase products online and provide easy-to-use mobile platforms.
The report revealed the SA consumer is slowly but surely getting into online shopping, with 25% of the shoppers in the survey doing their first online transaction within the last year. Furthermore 45% of SA shoppers questioned, did their first transaction within the last two years.
SA consumers are raising the bar for local retailers, wanting consistent retail experiences across all channels, physical as well as online. The report found local consumers are still wary of personal data security when it came to online shopping. This mistrust may be due to most of them being relatively new to the online retail channel.
