Much has been made of the defence’s argument in the Oscar Pistorius trial that witnesses Michelle Burger and Charl Johnson did not in fact hear gun shots on the morning of 14 February 2013, but the sound of Oscar Pistorius beating down the bathroom door with a cricket bat in an attempt to reach Reeva Steenkamp, and save her life.
This guy in the states conducted his own acoustic test to determine the differences between a gunshot and a cricket bat strike.
There are almost too many ways to describe why and how this can’t be an accurate test.
For a start, the environment both inside and surrounding Pistorius’ home has not been reproduced. This would have a drastic bearing on the acoustics.
Secondly, the apparatus, namely the gun (there are multiple varieties of 9mm pistol), door, and cricket bat have not been reproduced exactly.
We could go on. Interesting, nonetheless.
