Well, so says one band calling themselves UB40 (let’s call them Original40). The other band also performing under the name of UB40(henceforth Diet40) will still be touring SA. But what’s the deal with both bands claiming to be UB40?
A press release from Original40, which consists of five remaining founding members, said on Monday:
We would like to make it known to all UB40 fans in South Africa that the current shows being advertised at several venues in South Africa as UB40 shows are not genuine.
They also said that they will be pursuing the matter through legal routes.
Then there is Diet40, consisting of three former UB40 band members and most importantly the founding lead singer of UB40, Ali Campbell. Campbell left the band in 2008 after disputes with management. He then founded this UB40 (Diet40). The event organizers of the SA Tour are leaving the two UB40s to fight it out between themselves.
