Google Wanted To Pay More for WhatsApp – So What Happened?

In the days leading up to Facebook’s $19 billion purchase of WhatsApp, Google CEO Larry Page was willing to beat Facebook’s offer. So what happened that caused WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum to decline Google?
Facebook’s pitch to buy the rapidly growing messenger service included an offer from CEO Mark Zuckerberg to Koum to join his company and his board of directors. This was considered a bold move by Zuckerberg, in efforts to preserve Facebook’s dominance in online communication. Google’s counter offer was to top the $19 billion from Facebook and offere Koum the ability to keep his company independent.
It is reported that Koum perceived Google CEO Larry Page intention’s of buying WhatsApp as a means to hurt Facebook. The WhatsApp team decided to take Facebook’s bid, feeling that Facebook had a better grasp on what they were doing.
