NASA’s 3D Pizza Printer Makes A Decent Pie [VIDEO]

For astronauts, eating a simple pizza is out of the question, relegated to the memory of their good times back on Earth. For obvious reasons, those poor guys up there are stuck with canned and freeze-dried prepackaged foods. But things are looking up. Last year NASA hired a mechanical engineer to build a prototype of a 3D food printer that can make pizza, which is depicted in this awesome video.

The printer would be able to lay out all the starches, proteins, fats, texture, and structure, spraying on flavor, smell, and micronutrients at the end. This machine will offer a nutritious, comforting alternative to the boring stuff that they are currently eating.

It’s only in it’s early stages, and choice starved astronauts are going to have to wait a while before this technology goes up to space with them, but we’re sure that they are excited nonetheless.
