It’s getting harder and harder to get away with smoking cigarettes without coming under fire from all and sundry – and now it’s going to be that little bit more difficult.
In a broad review of scientific literature, America’s top doctor has concluded that cigarette smoking — long known to cause lung cancer and heart disease — also causes diabetes, colorectal and liver cancers, erectile dysfunction and ectopic pregnancy.
Dr. Boris D. Lushniak is set to release a report to the nation that greatly expands on the number of smoking-related illnesses.
The other health problems the report names are vision loss, tuberculosis, rheumatoid arthritis, impaired immune function and cleft palates in children of women who smoke.
Smoking has always been linked with these kinds of ailments, but this is the first time the federal government concluded that smoking actually causes them.
This brand-spanking new report comes 50 years after the pivotal 1964 surgeon general’s report in which the government concluded for the first time that smoking caused lung cancer.
