Older people aren’t cut out for most kinds of city living. That’s not to say that they’re better off outdoors – because they suck at that too. What retirees need is cities that are tailored to suit their lifestyle.
Walking is an issue because their feet are always hurting, and most of them were too daft to have saved for their retirement properly – so they’re poor too. So where do we send our immobile, penniless masses to live out their golden years?
International living’s annual Global Retirement Index 2014 has a few ideas.
They make a list like this every year, and take into consideration all the things that Granny would need in a city. Here are this year’s rankings.
1. Panama
2. Ecuador
3. Malaysia
4. Costa Rica
5. Spain
6. Colombia
7. Mexico
8. Malta
9. Uruguay
10. Thailand
A post on International Living reads:
Nearly everything about Panama is convenient, particularly if you’re coming from North America. The currency is the dollar, English is widely understood, and the international community is large and welcoming. Even the littlest things are easy…your U.S. appliances will work here, no converters needed. And you can find anything you need, from gourmet ingredients to popular clothing brands.
So there you go.
