If you think we’re talking about a major business like Google or Amazon, you’d be wrong. In fact, Yale professor Rodgrigo Canales argues that we could be descrbing any one of the three major Mexican drug cartels. While drug lords are usually thought of and portrayed as unorganized gangsters (with the exception of Walter White), Canales asks us to imagine that drug cartels aren’t only similar to multi-national corporations in size, but also in practice. Illegal drugs are a $60 billion market in the US, which is the approximate yearly revenue of Microsoft.
