Vintage arcade games are truly making a comeback. On 362 Third Avenue between 26th and 27th streets in New York City, a brand new pinball “sales and interactive showroom” has opened – but it’s really just a time warp back to the golden age of pinball.

It’s called Modern Pinball NYC, and it’s owned by Steve Epstein — the owner of the now-defunct Broadway Arcade, a Times Square staple for decades — and Steve Zahler, a champion pinball player himself.

Modern Pinball is actually a showroom that sells new and vintage pinball machines. New machines cost between R50,000 to R60,000, while a vintage one in mint condition can go for a cool R150,000.

The store also offers unlimited play on its 32 machines for a time-based fee (R75 for half an hour, R100 per hour and R200 for an all-day pass). That feature alone has attracted throngs of people from across the city.

Old-timers are rediscovering their youth, and modern children are discovering a world of play that offers far more than any iPad.
