In what is no doubt some sort of elaborate marketing ploy for the new Hobbit movie, Google is allowing us to fly through Middle Earth using Google Earth technology.
Once the landscape has loaded on your phone, tablet or PC, you’ll have a number of choices of places to explore, all of which feature in ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’, which came out last year, and ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ which should arrive next year.
Most of the project is still in the works, but if you click here you’ll be able to dodge trolls in the Trollshaws, stumble along the archways of Rivendell and explore the haunted fortress of Dol Guldur.
It’s actually pretty amazing. Google even plays ominous music when demons or monsters are nearby. Watch out for that.
