With the hype of the Currie Cup now all over it is time for us to focus on some international rugby, English Premier League football and the very important 1st leg of the CAF Cup final.
As always, there are various multiples on offer with odds ranging from 20 – 1 to 250 – 1. We have decided to take somewhat of the middle ground here and have gone with a very interesting option which is offering 50 – 1 on your money, here it is.
International rugby
England vs Australia
Let’s be honest here, Australia are no longer the power-house they once were. I use the phrase “power-house” rather loosely but gone of the days where The Springboks would be very pleased with a win against the Aussies. Nowadays, even to beat Australia at home is kind of expected and rightfully so. They are not looking great at the moment and must be under huge pressure to start performing. This weekend at Twickenham may just be the opportunity to start playing proper rugby. England haven’t played international rugby in awhile and have picked a very new look side to take on the Wallabies. Yes, they playing at home but given the Aussies performance in the last game of the rugby championships and the fact that have some big pressure on them, we are going with Aussies here. Horwill has been dropped as captain which is maybe not a bad call, he is quality player and can now focus on his own game. Australia for the win here.
English Premier Leaguee
Arsenal vs Liverpool
The game of the weekend for sure! 1 plays 3 in the log and Arsenal have most definitely silenced their critics so far this season. Arsenal really are looking like the team to beat and even though it has been awhile since they were in the mix, Wenger has been here before and has won titles. Liverpool are also playing great footy at the moment and are coming off a very solid performance at Anfield last weekend with a 4-1 win over West Brom. Rogers looks like he has brought that passion back and the fans are 100% behind him and the team, surely Liverpool must be in the running come the last few weeks of the season. Saying that, we still believe that Arsenal at home are to strong for Liverpool’s attack. Arsenal have 5 wins from their last 6 outings, Liverpool have 3 from 6. Arsenal to win at home here.
Everton vs Spurs
Tough call here. Not much separating them on the log, both coming off average wins last weekend and both teams having a great season thus far. Spurs however, have not managed a win at Goodison Park in their last 5 attempts. In fact, out of their last 10 encounters Spurs have only managed 2 wins, not an ideal record to have going into what could end up being a very important match for champions league spoils. Regardless of the history, there really is not much to choose from between the two but a 20% win record for Spurs at Goodison Park is just about enough to convince us that Everton should win this one.
Newcastle vs Chelsea
Coming off a great performance on the weekend against Manchester City, Chelsea are clear favourites here. It is never easy to win at St James’ Park but we feel that if any side can do it, it would be Chelsea. Newcastle are on the other hand coming off a loss to second bottom on the log side, Sunderland on the weekend. Chelsea have lost only 1 of their last 5 matches whereas Newcastle have lost 3 fro 5. After a promising season last year, the pressure must surely be on Alan Pardew to start getting some results. Not this weekend though, Chelsea to win.
CAF Cup Final – First Leg
A massive weekend for South African football. A win at home will go a long way to ensuring the Bucs a second star on their jersey. Ah Ahly are tough opponents and have been looking good in the last phase of the competition, a team that is always improving. As much as we would like to go with our hearts on this one we just feel that the amount of football Pirates have played in the last few months will come back to haunt them added to that the massive pressure of playing in front of their fans and we reckon that Al Ahly may just be able to cause what some may see as an upset. Our hearts say Pirates, our multiple says Al Ahly.
So those are our picks and predictions for this weekend. If you feel we you may want to get involved then you can do so here.
