One could spend hours scrolling through the listings of Gumtree. Logging in to one of South Africa’s most popular classifieds has become a little bit like window shopping, with a few key differences. For one, you don’t have to actually get up and go anywhere – so no need for pants. Second, because you’re not going anywhere there’s no need to find parking – nice. But most importantly, instead of dealing with disinterested salespeople dressed in uniforms and a nametag – you get enthusiastic local South Africans trying to sell you something that is inevitably of not great quality.
What does this result in? The best kind of peer-to-peer marketing there is. Just have a look at this gem that was sent to us by Tara Wells-Stoddard. Good name.
