Last weekend we went big. Maybe silly big but we were having some fun and took a chance on some long odds. Needless to say the bet didn’t come off and so this week are making up for it with a far more measured multiple which is offering 15 – 1 odds and includes matches from the following:
English Premier League
Currie Cup Final
Cricket – India vs Australia
Premier League
The 3 matches we have included in the weekend’s games is:
Aston Villa vs Everton
Chelsea vs Manchester City
Southampton vs Fulham.
First up Villa take on Everton at Villa Park. Villa are coming off a 2-0 loss to Spurs at weekend although Everton weren’t exactly convincing with their 2-1 win against Hull but given the overall form thus far in the league we feel that Everton should pick up a win here.
Chelsea vs Man City at Stamford Bridge is the big match up of the weekend and a mouthwatering clash it is going to be! With not much separating the two teams on the log it really is a tough one to call. A draw would not be a bad bet here but we’re gonna go ahead and pick a winner. One point worth considering is both teams mid-week action in The Champions League. Chelsea looked the more composed side of the two with a fairly convincing 3-0 win against a respected Schalke with Torres notching himself a brace in what was a solid performance away from home. Manchester City on the other hand had a little more work to do a day later against CSKA. Look, any away win in The Champions League is a great result. We also know that Premier League is a different story but we just feel that Chelsea seem to look like more of the composed side at this stage of the season, add to this their impressive record at The Bridge and a confident Torres and we feel that Chelsea are good to come away with the 3-points in this one.
Last of the Premier League games for the weekend we have Southampton vs Fulham which may just end up being a cracker of a game. Fulham looked great last weekend with a 4-1 victory away at Selhurst Park albeit against a now manger-less Chrystal Palace but it was solid performance nevertheless and 3 welcome points. Southampton however, are having a season that might end up going down as their best ever in top-flight football. Sitting 6th on the log with 15 points from 8 outings and coming off another great result on weekend against giants Manchester United where they managed to come away with a draw at Old Trafford, we think The Saints are the much better team at the moment. Playing at home, we backing The Saints for a win here.
Currie Cup – Final
Province vs Sharks! The dream final. There is no doubt that Province are playing the better rugby and have been far more consistent throughout the season, unbeaten so far. The Sharks having lost only 3 games all season and with all of their Springboks cleared to play are a much tougher side than they were last year when they lost to Province at Kings Park. The Sharks have Steyn and Alberts back and a full Springbok front row, after Bismarck was cleared of foul play and so will want to dominate the set pieces which would give them a better chance to play their newly adapted kicking game. Lose kicks however and they will find themselves in trouble with the attacking backline of Province. It is not like Province have a second rate pack either with Vermeulen, Kolisi and Fourie making up the lose trio, power house Etzebeth at lock and Schalk starting from the bench. Either way it is going to be a cracker of a game and proper Currie Cup final. WP are odds on favourites with the bookies, they are unbeaten, defending champions and are playing in front of a very passionate home crowd. For those reasons, we going with Province to retain the Currie Cup.
Cricket – India vs Australia
The 5th of 7 scheduled games takes place on Saturday with Australia leading 2-1 after the last game was drawn. India HAVE to win if they have any chance of winning the series and given the current status of Australian cricket losing a home series to the boys from down under might be a very difficult pill to swallow for the current World Champions. India are a class outfit and will be under pressure to come out firing on Saturday and given the pedigree of their team we feel that they can do just that. India to win, properly.
So those are our predictions for this weekend. If the above results come off, you get 15-1 on your money. There are however a range of multiples available ranging from 15-1 to 250 – 1.
