And you thought you were bad! Sleep easy tonight knowing that you are not nearly as bad as his particular man, who has no less than 238 warrants out for his arrest, with a total bill sitting at around R150,000! Who could it be?
If you guessed Sibusiso Funiselo, a local taxi owner, you’d be correct!
And of course he feels that because he isn’t driving the taxis, he shouldn’t have to pay.
This, from a local news journal called the Cape Times:
The city’s worst traffic offender has been captured – a taxi owner with 238 out- standing warrants worth R155 600 – but he is not too concerned about the law coming after him.
Sibusiso Funiselo, 33, of Browns Farm, Philippi, is the number one traffic offender.
He has been fined for a string of traffic violations, including unroadworthy vehicles, speeding, jumping stop streets and red traffic lights and overloading.
Funiselo appeared in the Traffic Court at the City Hall yesterday, looking calm.
At the court, mayco member for safety and security JP Smith said: “We have to make this man deal with the number of warrants. His business is generating a lot of grief for him and he is generating a lot of money by being irresponsible because his drivers continue to commit offences. He really is showing that he could not care less about road safety.”
Funiselo appeared in court for 56 outstanding traffic warrants worth more than R63 000 after being held at the Gallows Hill Traffic Department.
His record shows 238 outstanding warrants of arrest to the value of R155 600. Yesterday the magistrate postponed four of his cases to various courts in November and he was released on R4 000 bail.
Funiselo said: “Most of the warrants are from speed traps, almost all are from my drivers. I do feel bad and it is frustrating but the drivers do not want to listen. My business is growing but now it is not so profitable because of all the money I have to spend on fines…”
He did not want to disclose how many taxis he owns, but said last year he paid R30 000 for all his warrants and has started to pay his warrants for this year.
Shame man – is it “frustrating” that your drivers don’t listen when they drive all the cars that are in your name?
