Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro may have died from autoerotic asphyxiation rather than suicide, according to a new report. Castro’s trousers and underwear were around his ankles when he was found hanged on September 3 at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, according to a report from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
Autoerotic asphyxiation is the process of choking one’s self for the purpose of deriving sexual pleasure.
INXS singer, Michael Hutchence was long thought to have perished by hanging himself by his belt in a Sydney hotel room in 1997. However, his ex wife Paula Yates claimed in a 1999 interview that Hutchence’s death may have been caused by autoerotic asphyxiation, in contradiction to her statements made to the police. Investigators considered the claim mildly plausible, given the lack of a suicide note, but maintain the official line that Hutchence’s death was a suicide.
Turns out more than just a handful of famous people have perished thanks to erotics asphyxiation. Don’t you dare make a joke about going out with a bang.
