A 350 year old staircase is being repaired at the Cliveden estate – a stately home in the UK. And get this, builders have replaced it with a giant slide so visitors can get from the South terrace to the formal garden with ease.

No permission was needed to erect the slide because it’s not actually attached to any part of the house, it’s just attached to the scaffolding.

The slide is 6.65 metres high, and it takes about 5 seconds to get from top to bottom, much faster than the stairs!

The home repairs are being done as a £3.4m (R54,530,311) restoration project for the National Trust estate, which was once known as a “playground for the rich”.

The estate used to be home to Viscount Waldorf Astor, and was renowned for hosting the most exclusive parties and political meetings.

Visitor experience consultant, Sam Wills, said:

We wanted to keep that fun and enjoyable theme for today’s visitors.

The estate now serves as a historical hotel, the cheapest room is a cool £252 (R4,037) per night.
