President Bashar al-Assad of Syria is on Instagram, and he wants everyone to know what he’s been up to. The shots he’s posted so far show the President and his wife doing charitable work, feeding the hungry, embracing children, and being swarmed by loving crowds.
These photos surfaced on al-Assad’s account, just as the US begin to consider military intervention in the nation’s civil war.
The civil war in Syria is becoming increasingly brutal. It is alleged that government forces engaged in chemical warfare in the city of Damascus last week, killing 1,300 civilians.
The only mention of this war on al-Assad’s Instagram account are of the president shaking hands with soldiers. A caption reads: “protecting civilians,” and ‘regaining security and stability.”
The UN estimates that over 100,000 Syrian citizens have been killed so far. It has also been reported that UN investigators were fired on by snipers.
One of the President’s followers had this to say as a comment on one of the posted photos:
Wow, Syrian propaganda on Instagram!
Bashar al-Assad also has a Twitter account, Facebook page, and YouTube Channel.
